About the Seller
Designer Katrin Eckerstorfer of häkelstorfer has a one of a kind collection! Jewelry made from metallic yarn appearing to be chunky and metal-like is soft and stylish! From earrings, rings, necklaces and bracelets, there's a fashion piece for everyone!
What is your inspiration for this collection?
For my first collection a lot of inspiration comes from imitation. The material I use is metallic yarn and from a distance it looks as if the jewelry was real. So it is interesting and fun to play with the material and to create a "false" impression. Once people have touched my designs they are very surprised- the jewelry is light and soft and not massive as they would have expected.
Important for my inspiration is traveling and experiencing different cultures. You can always find me in vintage shops, museums, galleries, flee markets and outdoors, observing nature and people.
What drove you to choose fashion design and specifically starting your own designs?
I founded to company "Häkelstorfer" in 2010 because my designs had become very popular and this gave me the chance to built up my own business. Fashion Design has always been a big part of my life and since I have lived in NYC for 2 years fashion was omnipresent. Being inspired by the city and its lifestyle, it really pushed my to create my own jewelry line and to found my own company.
What has been your biggest struggle breaking into the world as an independent fashion designer?
To find shops and partners can be difficult, as there is a huge supply of jewelry on the market. I really had and have to proof that Häkelstorfer Jewelry is outstanding and I try to be persistent and not to give up after the first disappointment. Endurance and time are the two key facts to success and I think this will pay off on the long run.
Favorite Celebrity Fashion Icon:
Styleicons I really admire are Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kate Moss and Alison Mosshart. With these ladies fashion design and comfort goes hand in hand and this is also what Häkelstorfer stands for.
